With the annual E3 Expo in full swing, expectant videogame fans and industry watchers are flocking to Los Angeles to revel in some of the year’s biggest gaming announcements—one of which is likely to be a brand new console from Nintendo.

Although details remain scant regarding the console in question, Nintendo has confirmed that it will indeed roll out a fresh slab of hardware during its E3 keynote address later today (Tuesday, June 7).

Whilst we freely admit that we’re speculating wildly, we here at The Tech Herald don’t believe Nintendo will unveil a completely new home console, but will instead offer up a tweaked version of its hugely popular Wii platform.

Some of the console’s contributing elements are rumoured to include much-needed support for high-definition visuals, along with a touch-screen controller boasting its own six-inch display and built-in camera (source: Nikkei).

In related news, with market rival Sony still reeling after suffering multiple attacks against its Sony Computer Entertainment, Sony Pictures, and Sony Online Entertainment divisions, Nintendo has become the latest high-profile target for hacker group Lulzsec.

Although Nintendo has confirmed the attack, it has also been keen to stress that potentially sensitive customer data was not compromised.

“The server [hacked] contained no consumer information,” it said in an official statement. “The protection of our customer information is our utmost priority. We constantly monitor our security.”

Beyond hacking Sony Pictures last week, Lulzsec also claims to have carried out recent attacks against PBS Television and the Fox.com website.
