Some news for Deus Ex fans today after original series creator Warren Spector officially revealed the full title of the upcoming twist on the renowned first-person shooter during the Game Developer Choice Awards in San Francisco.

Currently in development at Eidos Montreal, the RPG prequel will be called Deus Ex: Human Revolution – a name recently whispered online after the studio registered the suffix in a trademark filing.

Shown to attendees at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) earlier in the day by Eidos Montreal art director Jonathan Jacques-Belletete, Human Revolution will arrive as the third title in the Deus Ex series.

According to Jacques-Belletete and spies over at Eurogamer, the game will exude a unique “cyber renaissance” aesthetic involving futuristic cyberpunk themes and stylised characters dressed in outfits inspired by contemporary fashion but accented by the puffy sleeves, geometric patterns and outrageous ruff collars associated with the Renaissance.

Sadly, not much else is presently known regarding narrative structure, gameplay features or even when the game is expected to hit retail. As things stand, all we know for sure is Deus Ex: Human Revolution is in development for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Games for Windows – and that we’re keen to learn more.

Steal a glimpse of Human Revolution in action by watching the new teaser trailer released to coincide with the game’s GDC appearance.
