When it comes to annual videogame updates in the sports genre, eager fans always seem capable of pushing their favourite button-mashing franchise to the top of the charts each and every year.
Take, for example, FIFA 12 from Electronic Arts (EA) and F1 2011 from Codemasters, both of which have stormed the All-Formats software chart over the pond in ye olde Blighty.
Notably, FIFA 12 has entered the chart as top dog and has also notched up the honour of becoming the UK’s third biggest videogame launch, thereby pushing Grand Theft Auto IV into fourth and sitting behind only Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Meanwhile, Codemasters’ latest tyre-shredding edition of Formula 1 action, which has been on the retail starting grid for a couple of weeks, is holding its position in the upper half of the top-ten chart—keeping the likes of Dead Island and Deus Ex: Human Revolution in its dirty air.
The football and racing heavyweights are split by Gears of War 3 on Xbox 360 and, in terms of other new entries to this week’s chart, only the PlayStation 3 bundle containing updated PlayStation 2 classics Ico and Shadow of the Colossus stands out.
FIFA 12 currently has a Metacritic average score of 91/100 across a total of 29 different reviews (PlayStation 3).
