While there’s little doubt regarding Facebook’s ongoing market dominance, the social networking giant has been kind enough to underline its overwhelming popularity by announcing it has reached 250 million users.

“For us, growing to 250 million users isn’t just an impressive number; it is a mark of how many personal connections all of you have made, and how far we at Facebook have to go to extend the power of connection to the billions of people around the world,” wrote Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a self-congratulatory blog post.

And, considering that Facebook only rushed past the 200 million mark three months ago, and 150 million at the turn of the year, it would appear the wealth of choice offered by the application-packed social platform is helping it maintain pace in terms of growth.

“The rapid pace of our growth is humbling and exciting for us, and it affirms that people everywhere are realizing the power of staying connected to everything they care about on Facebook,” he added.

News of Facebook’s continued momentum comes after the social network finally pulled in more unique U.S. users than its main market rival MySpace. According to the number crunchers at comScore, Facebook amassed 70.278 million users for the month of May, while MySpace managed 70.237 million.
