Last week, as Final Fantasy XIII finally began leaping enthusiastically into the clammy hands of Japanese consumers, we suggested the latest RPG epic from Square Enix would likely sell by the bucket load. We was right.
Moreover, if internal sources at Square Enix are to be believed, the PlayStation 3 version of the hotly anticipated game managed to sell more than a million copies in its first 24 hours of retail availability.
The renowned software developer was also keen to point out that its opening-day sales projection did not take into account copies of Final Fantasy XIII sold within special limited edition PlayStation 3 bundles that were launched alongside the game.
News of Final Fantasy XIII’s platinum sales performance follows on from Square Enix revealing that it has moved to meet high demand for the game by dispatching around 1.8 million copies to retail outlets across the Japanese territory.
Sadly, eager and/or frustrated series fans located in North America and Europe will have to wait until March 09 of 2010 for Final Fantasy XIII, which is when the sprawling adventure is due to launch with English localisation on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
