So, when it comes to smartphone technology, it would be fair to say the international market is led predominantly by the likes of Apple, Samsung and HTC.
However, it would appear Panasonic intends to (finally) get in on the global action too.
It remains to be seen if the Japanese electronics giant is arriving far too late to make a real difference, but the slender new handset now heading for European shores certainly shows a clear intent.
Although currently unnamed, Panasonic’s first European smartphone boasts a 4.3-inch qHD OLED capacitive display, a screen resolution of 960x540 (hmm), and an unspecified version of Google Android.
It will also sport a skinny curving profile, a rear-facing camera, and a rugged waterproof and dustproof exterior.
There’s no word yet on whether the phone will have a front-facing sensor for video chats, how much on-board RAM will be included, or how much muscle the processing platform will have.
Set for availability in either black or silver, the device is expected to arrive in March of 2012 as Panasonic looks to secure some 1.5 million smartphone sales within the first year of competing in the European market.
Once unleashed upon Europe, a family of similar Panasonic smartphones will be rolled out across North America, Asia and China.
