Yet more small-form and Net-friendly computers to tempt your portable pocketbook this week, with the first of those offered up for consumer consideration by Fujitsu Siemens in the shape of its diminutive Amilo Ui 3250. After recently making its unofficial market bow in early August via popular online video-sharing service YouTube, the Amilo Ui 3520 (a.k.a. Amilo Mini) was pushed into the ultra-mobile spotlight by Fujitsu Siemens during last week’s IFA Consumer Electronics trade show in Berlin. Walking the same specification line already trodden by most other entrants to the ultra-mobile personal computer (UMPC) arena, the new Amilo comes complete with an 8.9inch WSVGA display screen (1024x600), Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom processor (N270), 1GB of DDR2 667MHz RAM memory, and HDD storage options ranging from 30GBs to 80GBs. The Amilo Ui 3520’s appeal will also be bolstered by the inclusion of Windows XP Home, a 1.3 mega pixel Web camera, LAN, WLAN 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, USB 2.0, VGA out, and -- notably -- an ExpressCard slot. While predictably compact and lightweight (1kg) as per UMPC expectations, the Amilo Ui 3520 looks to add a little personal customisation to its small-form aesthetics by enabling users to click-on and click-off a colourful range of interchangeable face plates. These faceplates include variants in brown, black, pink and red. The new Amilo Ui 3520 is due to arrive at European retailers this coming October for a price of 399 Euros. In terms of international coverage, Fujitsu Siemens has said that a similar model will be made available for the American and Asian markets in the near future.
