Good news if you recently purchased a Galaxy S II or Galaxy Note smartphone only to be left disgruntled by the lack of Google’s latest Android operating system—it’s coming as a post-Christmas gift, kids.

More pointedly, Samsung has today confirmed that Android version 4.0 (a.k.a. Ice Cream Sandwich) will be offered as an update to an initial selection of eight Galaxy-branded devices.

According to electronics giant Samsung, the ICS software download will be released during Q1 of 2012 and will see the Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Note, and Galaxy R handsets joining the flagship Galaxy Nexus on the Android 4.0 bandwagon.

The update will also cover Samsung’s line of Galaxy tablet devices, including the Tab 10.1, the Tab 8.9, the Tab 7.7 and the Tab 7.0 Plus. Sadly, Galaxy S owners will not be receiving the platform boost.

Although specific release dates and carrier support for the ICS update have not yet been divulged, Samsung has said they will be offered up in the near future.
