Earlier this week we brought you news that Android Market has now racked up more than 10 billion application downloads since it opened back in October of 2008.

We can now report that—somewhat unsurprisingly—it’s mobile videogame software that attracts most users when it comes to splashing the cash at Google’s store.

According to the California-based technology titan, some 2.5 billion games have been snaffled since launch, which amounts to 25.6 percent of the total downloads that have passed through Android Market.

In terms of assessing associated popularity and consumer momentum, the store required almost three years to reach 6.5 billion downloads, hitting that figure in July of this year.

However, with the rapid adoption of smartphone and tablet technology throughout 2010 and 2011, interest in applications has grown exponentially and that number rocketed to 10 billion by November 2011.

There are presently 200 million Android devices being used around the world, according to Google, and a further 550,000 are being activated online every day.

Entertainment-based applications are also popular with Android users (12.2 percent), as are tool-based downloads (11.17 percent) and apps that assist with user communication (6.45 percent).

Other apps covering productivity, personalization, music, and social aspects all account for percentage shares of around four percent.
