Swedish company Gametel is to launch a snazzy videogame control peripheral that may add extra buying appeal to Android devices everywhere ahead of Christmas.

The controller in question snaps snuggly onto compatible smartphone handsets and provides gamers with instant access to a directional pad and face button layout—transforming them into something akin to the Sony Xperia Play.

The Gametel controller will apparently function with most Android smartphones and even some tablets via a Bluetooth connection, and enables gamers to sidestep sometimes fiddly touch-based control mechanics in favor of a more traditional input method.

Gametel has outlined a list of mobile games that work particularly well with its peripheral—which, while helpful, suggests a current lack of compatibility. That list includes the likes of Asphalt 5 HD, Diversion, Drag Racing, R-Type and Cordy, and is expected to increase exponentially over coming months.

In terms of specifications, the controller will run on devices powered by version 2.1 and higher of Google Android (following a driver download) and comes with its own rechargeable battery capable of providing nine hours of play on a single USB charge.

The Gametel physical controller, which is also compatible with iOS and Windows, will be in stores in time for Christmas attached to a price of around £50 GBP.
