Sometimes Google’s celebratory homepage Doodles are easy to appreciate at a glance, such as the recent 75th birthday of the late Jim Henson (Sept. 24), and the 65th birthday of the late Freddie Mercury (Sept. 5).
However, while not all are so easily recognizable, they are no less worthy of our attention. Take, for example, the current tribute to former Disney animator and artist Mary Blair, who would have today celebrated her 100th birthday.
During her time with the Walt Disney animation studio, Blair lent her considerable talents to classic hand-drawn movies such as Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Dumbo and Lady and the Tramp.
Later in her career, Blair’s colorful artistic influence was utilized by Disney during the creation of iconic theme park attractions such as It’s a Small World and Tomorrowland Promenade.
It’s worth noting that Blair was married to fellow artist Lee Everett Blair, who’s brother, Preston Blair, also worked as a classic animation artist and produced a popular series of animation guidebooks used by students around the world.
