If you’re visiting The Tech Herald and reading this article, you must have used a Web browser to get here.

However, while typing in a direct URL address, clicking a link or selecting from the Favourites bar is simple enough, how much do you really know about Web browsing?

Regardless of how well equipped you may be when it comes to surfing the Web, we recommend taking a moment or two to peruse Google’s new guide “20 Things I Learned about Browsers and the Web”.

According to Google product marketing manager Min Li Chan, the “20 Things” guide answers common questions such as, what is HTML-5 (or HTML, for that matter), what do terms like “cookies” or “cloud computing” mean, and how can we keep ourselves safe from online security threats?

“How do browsers and the web actually work,” outlined Chan, “This handy guide is for those of us who’d like to better understand the technologies we use every day.”

The free online guidebook, which has been written by Google’s Chrome team and illustrated by artist Christoph Niemann, has been put together to help explain “complex but fascinating” technologies in an accessible format.

Built in HTML-5, the “20 Things” guide is compatible with Google Chrome and any up-to-date HTML-5 compliant Web browser.
