If you’re a budding technology student or existing profession with aspirations to work in a creative environment fuelled by imagination and invention, chances are you might fancy shooting a resume in the direction of Google.
Adding to that obvious appeal, the California-based Internet giant has this week seen Fortune magazine hold it aloft as the single best place to work in the United States—pushing on from its third-place slot in last year’s listing.
“Everything was up at Google last year—revenue, profits, share price, paid search clicks, hiring—and so, too, was employee love,” outlines Fortune’s report. “The reason? Employees rave about their mission, the culture, and the famous perks of the Plex.”
Said perks of working for Google include the free use of bocce courts and a bowling alley, eyebrow shaping (for a modest fee), and free food in any of its 25 nationwide company cafeterias. Woof!
Google is not alone in representing the world of technology, with fellow hardware and software outfits such as SAS Institute (3), NetApp (6), and Zappos (11) all joining the search titan in the upper echelons of the chart.
Looking a little further down the list, we find heavyweights such as Adobe (41), Intel (46), Microsoft (76), and Cisco Systems (90).
Google presently boasts some 18,500 employees in the United States, and posted job growth of 33 percent during 2011.
