If you’re a keen developer looking to sink your software teeth into an Ice Cream Sandwich, you’ll be pleased to learn that Google has this week released the source code for version 4.0 of its Android operating system.
Unveiled through the official Android Open Source Project, the version of code available is 4.0.1, which will make its debut aboard Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus smartphone and fills the gap left by the source code no-show attributed to Android version 3.2 (Honeycomb).
“This release includes the full history of the Android source code tree, which naturally includes all the source code for the Honeycomb releases,” commented Jean-Baptiste Quero, a software engineer at the Open Source Project in a blog post. “Since Honeycomb was a little incomplete, we want everyone to focus on Ice Cream Sandwich.”
“However, since this is a large push, please be aware that it will take some time to complete,” he cautioned. “If you sync before it’s done, you’ll get an incomplete copy that you won’t be able to use, so please wait for us to give the all-clear before you sync.”
