If there is any remaining doubt about Google’s inexorable march toward technological global dominance, allow us to once again attempt its quashing be bringing you the following:

Having conquered the online search sector and made serious market inroads with its Chrome browser and Android operating system, Google is now trumpeting the success of its software application store.

More pointedly, the California-based titan has this week revealed that users of the official Android Market have racked up in excess of 10 billion (that’s billion) downloads.

In terms of assessing the full impact of that figure, it’s worth noting that the store—which opened in October 2008—had amassed 6.5 billion downloads by July of this year.

Android Market’s impressive momentum is being fuelled by the current popularity of the Android mobile operating system, which is already running on more than 200 million devices worldwide.

Beyond merely tooting its own horn regarding the download milestone, Google has revealed a willingness to share the love with Android Market users.

Specifically, some of the store’s premium software apps—including the likes of Asphalt 6, Sketchbook Mobile, Minecraft and Paper Camera—will be offered for just $0.10 USD as part of a limited time promotion.

Given that Google has shifted some 3.5 billion Android Market downloads in the last five months, it’s surely only a matter of time before the store catches and surpasses Apple’s App Store, which presently stands at around 18 billion downloads.
