The crime-based action of Grand Theft Auto V will be set in Hollywood and not a brand new location, according to the online fountain of reliable knowledge that is VG247.
If true, this will mean a return to the Los Santos and Vinewood regions of San Andreas (GTA’s version of Los Angeles) for the next entrant in Rockstar Games’ critically acclaimed sandbox series.
Although Rockstar is currently keeping tight-lipped regarding all aspects of Grand Theft Auto V, reports suggest series publisher Take-Two Interactive will reveal the game’s location during an upcoming event for Max Payne 3.
Lending weight to VG247’s initial rumour, several other gaming sites – including Eurogamer – have since referenced ‘unnamed’ or ‘independent’ sources in suggesting that Rockstar is currently researching locations around Hollywood.
“Our source could not say whether the research was specific to the GTA series,” outlined Eurogamer, which failed to mention other Rockstar properties based in Los Angeles.
Specifically, Rockstar has racing game Midnight Club: Los Angeles already in its software portfolio, and is presently working on L.A. Noire, a crime caper set in the late 1940s that unfolds across the ‘City of Angels’.
In related news, UK tabloid The Daily Star has apologised for running a fake ‘scoop’ in which it suggested Rockstar was to use the sleepy Northumberland town of Rothbury as Grand Theft Auto’s next setting.
Rothbury was recently rocked when murderer Raoul Moat shot and killed himself there following a weeklong manhunt and tense final standoff with armed police.
