Building on the phenomenal success of its sprawling open-world franchise, videogame developer Rockstar Games has this week unveiled the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto V. Strap yourself in, because it’s an absolute cracker.
Although not much is presently known about Rockstar’s latest classic-in-the-making, the trailer suggests Grand Theft Auto V will mark a return to the crime-addled streets of a fictionalized Los Angeles.
According to certain diligent individuals who’ve clearly got a lot of time on their hands, Grand Theft Auto V could also include established series characters such as Vice City’s Tommy Vercetti and San Andreas hoodlum Carl ‘CJ’ Johnson.
There even appears to be a quick snapshot of Grand Theft Auto IV’s protagonist Niko Bellic, although he seems to begging, which would suggest the Eastern European antihero has perhaps fallen on hard times.

In related news, industry analysts are already predicting that Grand Theft Auto V could well hit retail shelves by June of 2012—thereby hogging the limelight ahead of the E3 Expo in Los Angeles.
“We believe Rockstar Games is modeling a four to six month marketing window for their upcoming GTA V release, suggesting a summer ’12 launch period,” commented Mike Hickey of National Alliance Capital Markets in a CVG report.
