The brand power of Apple should not be underestimated. In fact, the desire to procure an iPad, iPhone or MacBook can be so irresistibly potent that it causes the criminally inclined to perform smash-and-grab raids against bricks-and-mortar Apple outlets. Madness.

Clearly intoxicated by the draw of Apple’s hugely popular devices, opportunistic burglars shattered the glass front of an Apple Store in Greenwich, Connecticut, on Tuesday before pilfering gadgetry worth tens of thousands of dollars from its exposed shelves.

According to local police officials, five masked raiders were involved in the 3 a.m. burglary, all of which made off in an as-yet unidentified vehicle with their ill-gotten gains.

Tuesday’s raid against the Greenwich Avenue outlet is the latest in a spate of Apple Store attacks, which are certainly tempting to criminals due to their glass fronts. So much so that similar burglaries have taken place at outlets in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Only last week, four burglars struck an Apple Store in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, at around 2 a.m., requiring only 30 seconds to remove music players, smartphones and portable computers.
