The next time your cell phone is dead when you’re desperate to make a call, we recommend thinking twice before asking the nearest man if you could borrow his handset for a few moments.
Specifically, new research carried out by UK retailer The Carphone Warehouse has revealed that around 50 percent of men are in the habit of fingering the Interwebs while perching precariously atop the stinky porcelain throne.
According to the poll of 2,000 people, 49 percent of chaps said they often partake in a little Internet uploading on their mobile phones while pausing their day for a little focused downloading in the bathroom.
Interestingly, the poll doesn’t reveal what percentage of those men wash their hands—or their phones—after their foul ablutions have been performed. Urrgh.
That being said, The Tech Herald would suggest its readers carry sanitary wipes at all times—in order to clean any temporarily acquired mobile device—because the survey also found that a 42 percent average of all respondents tend to enjoy a bout of opportunistic stool surfing.
Moving away from the toilet habits of The Carphone Warehouse’s customer base, the study also revealed that 50 percent of mobile phone users check the Net every few hours and 72 percent of women use their phone’s online functionality in the bedroom—although exactly when and why is not divulged.
Amazingly, 11 percent of those polled even admitted to using the mobile Web as digital company whilst on a date.
The Carphone Warehouse’s study was released to coincide with the store’s new ‘Never Pay for the Internet’ tariff, which is available via Talkmobile.
