When the PSP Go handheld first arrived at retail in October of this year, many criticised Sony Corp. for abandoning the platform’s existing physical UMD drive format in favour of a strict digital distribution model.
Some also suggested the 225 GBP retail price (25 GBP below RRP) was unlikely to sit well with recession-hit consumers given the existence of cheaper, older PSPs able to host UMD discs internally and downloadable software via Memory Stick.
Those still gnawing on that latter bone of contention might now consider giving the PSP Go the nod after leading UK multimedia retailer HMV this week moved to sprinkle some much-needed fairy dust over the revamped console by dropping its already adjusted price of 199 GBP to an even more pocket-friendly 149 GBP.
The undeniably generous price drop applies to the standard black version of Sony’s PSP Go (the white model remains unchanged at 199 GBP), and HMV has said the offer is “very limited” and purchases are restricted to two units per customer.
So, if you want to make the transition from regular PSP to sassy PSP Go, or perhaps get in on the portable action for the very first time, now’s your opportunity at a price unlikely to buckle your knees.
Update:
HMV's PSP Go offer was a strictly limited time deal available through its Web store, and, given that the store now shows the console priced at 199 GBP, it likely sold out of its limited stock extremely quickly.
Also, for those questioning the accuracy of this report, HMV's head of PR told us today that:
"This was an online limited promotion only and was not available instore... at no point did we advertise the offer other than through our website."
