Finally, notebook sound that isn't crap! Image: HP/Beats.

Having already launched something of a quality assault on the ears of demanding music lovers via the acclaimed Beats headphones range, renowned music producer Dr. Dre and Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine are bringing Beats Audio to notebook users via the new HP Envy 15.

Offered up by Hewlett-Packard as part of its flagship hardware line, the sassy Envy 15 is a limited edition portable system decked out in the iconic piano black chassis and blazing red accents made famous by existing Beats-branded devices.

According to Beats co-founder Iovine, the decision to shift focus to notebook hardware came about because “most PCs downgrade sound to unacceptable levels” that are further affected when the digital content is then reduced to limited platforms such as MP3.

“Beats is about sound. That’s all it’s ever been about, starting with the headphones and now moving to the Beats Envy computer we’re doing with HP,” outlined Dr. Dre. “The laptop is the new stereo for a lot of people and that’s why we’re putting out this computer with incredible sound.”

“With HP, we found a partner willing to take the steps to improve the overall sound in the PC and to bring it up to the level that musicians hear in the studio,” added Iovine.

And, adding to the appeal of HP’s sexy ‘sounding’ platform, the limited edition Envy 15 also comes complete with a pair of precision-engineered Beats by Dr. Dre High-Definition Headphones.

Beyond the obvious audio wow factor, those willing to dig deep for the $2,299 USD notebook can also look forward to Intel Core i7 mobile processing performance, a generous 15.6-inch high-resolution backlit display, a Nightvision VGA Web camera, an external optical drive, an ultra-thin profile of one inch, a total weight of 5.19 pounds, and promised battery life of seven hours.

The HP Envy 15 Beats limited edition computer will be unleashed to market in the United States on October 22.
