Described by HP as the industry’s very first convertible notebook PC equipped with multi-touch capabilities and aimed at the consumer market, the tx2 draws from the same touch innovations used in HP's TouchSmart desktop line and quite literally gives on-the-go users fingertip access to their digital content.

Bolstering the tx2's touch-screen abilities is the inclusion of HP's MediaSmart digital entertainment software suite, which enables users to naturally select, organise and directly manipulate their personal computer files, including everything from photos and music through to video and Web content.

“Breezing through websites and enjoying photos or video at the tap, whisk or flick of a finger is an entirely new way to enjoy digital content on a notebook PC,” trumpeted Ted Clark, senior vice president and general manager of Hewlett-Packard's Notebook Global Business Unit and Personal Systems Group.

According to HP, which is the world's leading computer seller, its TouchSmart tx2 notebook will provide users with an easier and more natural way to interact with their PCs while also pushing the boundaries of touch technology.

Beyond the obvious tactile appeal of its touch-sensitive interfacing, the TouchSmart tx2 also comes equipped with a 12.1-inch BrightView LED display screen on a twist hinge, which allows users to enjoy the hardware as a PC, a display, or even a writing tablet.

Other features connected to the TouchSmart tx2 include a choice of either the AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor or the AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor, an integrated HP Web camera, and it runs on Microsoft's Windows Vista Home Premium operating system.

And, enhancing its core strengths yet further, the sleek and versatile tx2 also comes with online support for MediaSmart TV. The service has recently seen its content scope expanded thanks to a new deal between HP and MTV Networks, which will include the introduction of channels such as Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and GameTrailers.

Available to order now across the United States via HPDirect, the TouchSmart tx2 is attached to a starting price of $1,149 USD.
