Hewlett-Packard (HP), the world’s biggest computer manufacturer, has this week announced a partnership with Omnifone that will deliver digital music content to select HP systems sold across the European territory.

Specifically, the content deal will result in the launch of MusicStation Desktop on HP Pavilion, Compaq Presario and Envy personal computers, and will provide users with access to 6.5 million tracks from a host of independent labels and all four of the world’s major publishers (Universal, Sony, EMI and Warner).

The pre-loaded service will initially offer itself up via a free 14-day trial period, after which “a small monthly subscription” will grant complete unlimited access and enable the legitimate download, playback and even user-to-user sharing of all available content.

While downloaded tracks can only be listened to for as long as users continue subscribing to the MusicStation service, their favourite 10 tracks can be downloaded and kept forever in the DRM-free MP3 file format each month.

The 10 European countries set to receive MusicStation Desktop are Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Monthly pricing for the UK market stands at 8.99GBP, while Switzerland and Sweden will provide access for 14.95CHF and 99SEK respectively. The other seven countries will carry the service for a fee of 9.99 EUR.
