If you're a TouchPad tablet owner looking to enjoy a slightly more attuned version of HP's accompanying WebOS operating system, the computer manufacturing heavyweight has duly obliged via the platform's first official update.

Announcing the imminent arrival via its official page on micro-blogging service Twitter, HP has said the update will be delivered automatically to users as an over-the-air (OVA) download.

“We're focused on ensuring an excellent experience on TouchPad, and we're addressing as much of the early performance feedback as possible to deliver the experience customers expect,” outlined HP spokeswoman Sara Coughlin.

“While we haven't given a specific time of when the OTA will occur, customers can expect it shortly,” she added.

HP has not yet fully detailed the “hundreds” of improvements and enhancements WebOS version 3.0.2 will introduce, nor has it said whether tweaks will be limited to core performance and reliability or will also include security elements.

Some of the promised changes will include boosts to WebOS aspects such as calendar, email, multimedia, text assist, and online usage (i.e., HTML and auto correction)

The HP TouchPad, which launched in early July, has been criticised somewhat for the sluggish performance attributed to HP's proprietary WebOS software along with an overly complicated set-up process.
