Having already this week unveiled the convertible EliteBook 2740p as its robust entry into the emerging tablet market, computer manufacturing giant HP (Hewlett-Packard) has whipped the covers off another more standard, but no less tempting, notebook device.

Also arriving as part of the EliteBook line, the brushed metal EliteBook 2540p is aimed at business and enterprise users and is powered by a choice of Intel Core processors (i5 or i7) in either standard voltage for maximum performance or low voltage for improved productivity, along with up to 8GBs of DDR3 SDRAM.

Described as the company’s lightest EliteBook entrant thanks to a starting weight of just 3.3lbs (approx. 1.49kg), the 2540p also boasts a 12.1-inch LED screen (1280 x 800), integrated HP Mobile Broadband powered by Gobi, an optional 2.0 mega-pixel camera with business card reader software, and HP’s Fingerprint Sensor technology for increased security.

The 2540p also carries multiple battery options to suit either more physically lightweight configurations or increased operational longevity. For example, a three-cell battery will deliver up to four hours of charge, while the heavier six-cell option will provide up to 8.5 hours, and a nine-cell beast will push 12.5 hours.

As with its swivel-screen 2740p stablemate, the EliteBook 2540p has been crafted to meet military-grade standards for resistance against vibration, dust, humidity, altitude and extreme temperatures. The 2540p also employs post-consumer recycled plastic resin in at least 12 percent of its entire plastic content.

Expected to hit the U.S. market before the close of April, the sassy Elitebook 2540p will arrive attached to a starting price of $1,099 USD.
