HTC and Verizon fancy the Droid (to be) Incredible

Stop that! It isn't a buffed Nexus One. It isn't! Image: HTC/Verizon Wireless.

If it ain’t broke… Mobile phone manufacturer HTC has seen its Droid handset perform well alongside Google’s increasingly popular Android operating system and a carriage association with Verizon Wireless. Why fix it… Bearing that in mind, meet the new Droid Incredible:

Set to hit retail across the United States from April 29, the “topographic” Droid Incredible comes complete with Android v2.1, a sprawling 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED capacitive touch screen (480 x 800), the newest version of HTC’s Sense user interface, 8GBs of internal memory, and a “superfast” 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

If that doesn’t quite tick all the boxes where ‘incredible’ is concerned, HTC’s latest Droid also boasts 3G connectivity via Verizon Wireless, Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), an 8.0 mega-pixel camera with dual LED flash, a virtual QWERTY keyboard, integrated GPS, Exchange ActiveSync, and Friend Stream for unified Facebook, Twitter and Flickr updates.

And we’re not done yet. Other contributing factors include a proximity sensor, light sensor and digital compass, an optional joystick for smooth(er) navigation, dedicated Home, Menu, Back and Search keys, access to more than 30,000 applications via the Android Market, and a 3.5mm headphone/headset jack.

If perhaps falling a little short of genuinely incredible, HTC’s new Droid is at least convincingly impressive in the specification dept. If you agree, you can pre-order a unit from April 19 for $199.99 USD after a $100 USD mail-in rebate and agreeing to a two-year data plan.
