With version 4.0 (a.k.a. Ice Cream Sandwich) of Google Android formally unveiled in October, leading smartphone carrier HTC has this week detailed exactly which of its phones will be supported during the “first wave” of mobile operating system updates.

“HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google’s latest version of Android… so we’re thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades…” it outlined in an online statement.

“We’re continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich,” it added.

The list, which was published via HTC’s official Facebook page, shows that the Taiwanese consumer electronics specialist plans to bring the latest and greatest Android platform to the Sensation, Sensation XL, Sensation XE and the newly announced Rezound.

According to HTC, the EVO 3D, EVO Design 4G, and Amaze 4G will also receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade via the handset maker’s carriage partners—while the Vivid handset is already able to support the upgrade.

Although HTC has not officially confirmed when the remainder of its smartphone line will be resplendent with version 4.0 of Android, said updates are expected in early 2012.
