With the Kindle Fire due to begin shipping to retail on November 14, it would appear online-giant-turned-device-manufacturer Amazon is confident the tablet computer will be a resounding success.
Indeed, Amazon has this week increased Kindle Fire production intensity to match recent analyst projections that suggest between three and five million unit sales before the year’s end.
According to unnamed “upstream” sources cited by technology site DigiTimes, Amazon has pushed its initial production run from four million units to five million units in order to cover potentially high customer demand.
Bolstered by the popularity of its Kindle electronic reader—and the Kindle Fire’s ultra low price of $199 USD—Amazon registered approximately 100,000 sales of the Fire tablet during its first day of pre-order availability.
And, rather than being a mere flash in the pan, the Kindle Fire then continued to show impressive sales momentum for the following week thanks to daily sales of around 20,000 units.
In related news, a new survey carried out by ChangeWave Research indicates that 26 percent of early adopters planning to purchase a $199 USD Kindle Fire will be putting their plans to buy a $499 USD Apple iPad2 on hold.
