Hailed by many critics as 2010’s ‘Gadget of the Year’, the iPad offers a market-leading touchscreen experience accented by stunning aesthetics, unrivalled usability, and a wealth of software apps via iTunes.
Surely Apple’s iconic tablet computer can’t add any more strings to its bow. Wait a moment, is that an uncensored Playboy app we see looming on the horizon?
Indeed it is.
Moreover, evergreen Playboy boss Hugh Hefner has revealed via Twitter that a Playboy application for the iPad is already in development and is expected to launch in March.
“Yes, all the back issues of Playboy will be available on iPad, & current issues as well,” announced ‘the Hef’ before adding that said iPad publications “will be uncensored”.
Beyond the obvious titillation associated with staring at completely naked ladies sans strategically placed ‘Ooops’ icons, the Playboy app will offer “the whole magazine from the first issue to the latest”.
That means that, if your iPad’s data storage ceiling can hold so much unfettered boobage (and the odd journalistic distraction), you should prepare to gather up Playboy content that spans an impressive 58 years.
Colour us skeptical, but we’re not convinced that Hef’s app will sail completely unopposed through Apple’s stringent approval process, which is well known for clamping down on submissions built around lewd content.
That being said, Playboy has always traded on its supposedly ‘tasteful’ and ‘arty’ photography, and it already has an iPhone app safely ensconced on the App Store.
It’s also worth noting that Apple has previously turned a blind eye to apps such as the one accompanying UK newspaper The Sun, which publishes topless glamour models on a daily basis.
Playboy has not yet said how much the application will cost.
