What Internet speeds are you really getting? Image: FCC.gov.
Have you ever wondered whether your online connection is delivering the speeds promised by the smiley-faced Internet service provider (ISP) ahead of getting your signature on a contract?
If you have, then chances are you’ve also searched the Web for dependable (and free) online speed tests that measure the performance of individual Internet connections.
Are you still uncertain despite favourable test results? Do you still suspect your ISP is ripping you off? If so, why not allow the FCC to confirm your doubts or reinforce your satisfaction?
More pointedly, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has this week launched its own Internet connection test platform created to help provide a definitive answer on whether or not providers are short-changing their customers.
“The FCC’s new digital tools will arm users with real-time information about their broadband connection and the agency with useful data about service across the country,” explained FCC chairman Julius Genachowski.
“These tools help eliminate confusion and make the market work more effectively,” he added in an official statement.
The Consumer Broadband Test test, which can be accessed by clicking here, has been introduced by the FCC after its officials complained back in September of 2009 that online performance can drop by as much 50 percent during peak times.
