In Photos: Philips' green alternative to 60-watt incandescent bulbs

Given the attention that Dutch electronics giant Philips has earned for their Earth Day launch of a green alternative to the 60-watt incandescent bulb - with a limited use lifespan of nearly two decades - The Tech Herald has obtained some photos taken during testing for those who are curious.

The images below were taken during the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) Bright Tomorrow Lighting Prize (L Prize). The full story behind the LED bulbs and Philips’ expanding work on green lighting initiatives is here.

This design center and office building in Chicago used L Prize entry lamps to replace 90W incandescents in 'wedding cake' enclosed fixtures in a main ground-floor corridor.

 

This Michigan auto dealership replaced fluorescent lamps with L Prize entry lamps in a rotating display featuring the Ford GT.

In the dining area of this quick-service restaurant in Jackson, Wisconsin, 17 L Prize entry bulbs were installed in pendant fixtures.

 

L Prize entry bulbs were used in residential fixtures including overhead lamps, floor lamps, mounted ceiling lights, table lamps, and a mounted wall sconce.

 

At this Florida restaurant, L Prize entry bulbs were installed in pendant fixtures over the bar counter (placed in alternating sequence) and dining tables.
