Well, we all thought the $199 USD price tag attached to the Kindle Fire would help sell copious amounts of Amazon’s virgin entrant into the tablet market. We was so right.

Moreover, the online retailer has this week revealed that existing sales records were broken during the recent festive period as millions of customers flocked to the tablet, like moths to a flame. Ahem.

Although Amazon hasn’t provided exact sales figures, it has offered that the Kindle Fire is the best-selling, most gifted and most wished for product on its U.S. store—and has been ever since launching more than three months ago.

And it’s not just the Kindle tablet that’s been firing customer enthusiasm over at Amazon. We can’t help it. Indeed, the Kindle electronic book reader (specifically the Kindle Touch) has also been selling at breakneck speed.

“2011 was the best holiday ever for the Kindle family as customers purchased millions of Kindle Fires and millions of Kindle e-readers,” the Seattle-based company said in an official statement.

Given the apparent popularity attributed to the electronic reader, it’s unsurprising to see Amazon beating its chest about rocketing eBook sales too.

Christmas Day was, according to the retail giant, the “biggest day ever for Kindle book downloads,” and that Kindle Direct Publishing was used to publish the No.1 and No.4 best-selling books on the sales chart.
