Some guys have all the luck. And, in this particular case, “all the luck” of course means the very good kind mixed with a generous dose of the very bad kind.
More pointedly, a 34-year-old truck driver from Utah is this week nursing a bruised ego after crashing a cutting-edge Lamborghini worth $380,000 USD a matter of hours after winning it in a contest.
David Dopp, the ‘lucky’ recipient in question, won the beautiful Murcielago LP 640 after taking part in a prize giveaway held during a sponsored medical awareness benefit.
However, Dopp’s joy at owning one of the world’s most desirable cars lasted just six hours after he lost control of the growling beast on Saturday evening in the little town of Santaquin.
Speaking with local broadcaster KSL-TV, winner-turned-loser Dopp said the supercar hit “some black ice or loose gravel” before spinning off the road and slamming into a line of fence posts.
Although Dopp also insisted that the car hadn’t been traveling “that fast” prior to leaving the road, the unfortunate Lamborghini did sustain a significant amount of chassis damage.
Clearly ruffled by the whole experience, Dopp has said the car will probably be put up for sale once it returns from a repair workshop in Las Vegas.
Somewhat ironically, Dopp also won $5,000 USD worth of driving lessons as part of the prize.
