Seeing as though 2011 is clearly becoming ‘the year of the tablet’, let’s kick this week’s smattering of gadgetry news off with a sneaky peek at Lenovo’s upcoming ThinkPad ultra-portable computer.
Although Lenovo’s debut platform will arrive distinctly late to the tablet party—Apple’s trend-setting iPad launched in 2010—the ThinkPad will apparently offer up something special in an effort to differentiate itself from the competition.
That’s according to a leaked image of the device from ‘This is My Next’, which suggests the ThinkPad will include a security-infused notebook dock that provides users with instant access to traditional keyboard interfacing.

That said, when not slid into the accompanying dock, the ThinkPad should be a thoroughly decent tablet, thanks to its 10.1-inch touchscreen (1280x800), a Lenovo-optimised variant of the Android UI (based on Honeycomb), NVIDIA’s dual-core Tegra 2 processor, and up to 64GBs of data storage.
If the report’s sources are accurate, the slender 1.6lb device will also boast front and rear cameras, port access for USB 2.0, microUSB ports and miniHDMI, and an SD card reader.
Other features are said to include mobile hotspot support, up to eight hours of battery life, and enterprise and productivity aspects such as Citrix, remote desktop support, and an optional active digitiser and Android pen.
Although Lenovo has neither confirmed nor denied the existence of the ThinkPad tablet, we expect it to hit before the close of summer attached to a price of around $500 USD. Lenovo is also set to launch its LePad tablet in July.
