Given that Microsoft Corp. last week officially launched its Windows 7 operating system, it’s no surprise to see many of the company’s manufacturing partners rolling out a procession of new hardware platforms equipped with the new software platform. Bearing that in mind, Lenovo has unveiled an appealing selection of new additions to its popular line of IdeaPad notebooks and IdeaCentre desktop computers.
First up is the 15.6-inch IdeaPad Y550P ($1,149 USD), which Lenovo describes as offering “cutting-edge power for multimedia on the go,” and arrives as the manufacturer’s very first notebook supported by the considerable muscle of Intel’s Core i7 and performance-enhancing Intel Turbo Boost Technology. Other features include powerful NVIDIA discrete graphics, Dolby Home Theater surround sound, and Lenovo’s touch-sensitive SlideNav interface bar.
Then there’s the “slim and chic portability” of the IdeaPad U150 ($585 USD), which has a svelte profile of just 13.5mm and weighs a mere 1.35kg. While not carrying the same power as its Y550P stablemate, the 11.6-inch U150 offers Intel Core 2 Duo processing, up to 8GBs of DDR3 RAM, a widescreen display, Active Protection for safe hard drive data, and v7.0 of the OneKey Rescue System for swift data backups.
Rounding out Lenovo’s new IdeaPad offerings is the U550 ($650 USD), which is a 15.6-inch widescreen notebook that comes with an Intel Core Duo processor and switchable graphics that allows users to stretch battery life by turning discrete performance on and off at the press of a button. Other features include Dolby Sound Room, auto screen brightness via the Ambient Light Sensor, a built-in DVD drive, an integrated fingerprint reader, and enhanced security through VeriFace face recognition.
Moving over to the IdeaCentre line, prospective desktop buyers can look forward to the gamer-friendly performance of the IdeaCentre all-in-one B500 ($649 USD) and the optimised power of the K300 ($499 USD), with both set to arrive equipped with the added oomph of Intel’s Core 2 Quad processing technology.
Taking a closer look, the B500 comes with up to 8GBs of DDR3 RAM, 1TB of hard disk storage, a whopping 23-inch Full HD screen, a VoIP handset air mouse and media remote, high-quality JBL integrated speakers, a 4-in-1 remote control that doubles as a motion-drive game controller, and CamSuite that helps users remain in the centre of their Web camera’s focus and even adds special effects.
The K300 comes with support for high-performance RAID-configured hard drives and also includes Lenovo’s Power Control Switch technology that gives users the ability to directly control their system’s level of power – ranging from full-on performance through to optimised energy efficiency.
