If you’ve ever been half way to anywhere only to be suddenly struck with the realisation that you’ve not locked the front door, then the wonders of modern technology are about to come to your rescue, courtesy of the Schlage LiNK.

Schlage, a name synonymous with quality door locks, has used this week’s CEDIA EXPO in Denver, Colorado, to unveil its new LiNK system, which, while providing all the security you’d expect from Schlage, can also be accessed remotely in order to apply fully-automated user control.

Schlage LiNK provides a selection of battery-operated deadbolts and locks for the user, all of which can be controlled 24/7 through any Web-enabled mobile phone or computer, explains Kansas-based Schlage, a subsidiary of Ingersoll Rand.

“It’s more than a lock, it’s peace of mind,” states Schlage’s official Web site, regarding the system’s keyless and encrypted, 4-digit entry access codes that can be entered, activated, deleted or disabled directly on the lock’s 11-digit push-button keypad or remotely through the Schlage LiNK Web portal or mobile application.

“Schlage LiNK deadbolts and locks give homeowners the control and peace of mind of always knowing that even if their home is not in sight, it's never out of reach,” said Dwight Gibson, Ingersoll Rand’s general manager of Intelligent Residential Security.

“Schlage has been the leading lock brand for the residential security market for more than 85 years and we are dedicated to continually developing product innovations that not only deliver first-rate security but also add convenience to our customers’ busy lives,” he added.

Beyond its uses in relation to eliminating physical keys, LiNK can also provide instant remotely-applied access for family members, friends, unexpected house guests and known service providers such as handymen and housekeepers.

Also, the online LiNK portal gives users the ability to set up codes for specific days and times, receive text or e-mail notifications when certain codes are inputted, and even track codes that have been used across a 90-day period.

Other Schlage LiNK features include automated Z-Wave compatibility with more than 300 other Z-Wave-enabled products, Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protection used by the banking industry, full RF signal encryption using AEC 128bit protocols, Z-Wave Bridge plug-and-play simplicity via a computer’s Ethernet connection, physical key entry back-up, and multi-door installation.

The Schlage LiNK ‘Starter Kit’ will retail for $299 USD when it arrives in October. The kit includes one Schlage LiNK deadbolt or lock, a wireless Z-Wave Bridge unit and a compatible light module.

Additional Schlage LiNK deadbolts or locks will retail for $199 USD. A further monthly fee of $12.99 USD covers usage of the online portal and mobile application.
