Looking to expand the exposure and retail reach of its iconic BlackBerry line, Canadian smartphone manufacturer Research In Motion (RIM) is rumoured to be on the cusp of announcing its first European store.

According to advanced word received by the tech watchers at Pocket-Lint, the store will be located in London within the giant Selfridges department store on the city’s famous Oxford Street and will be operated by prominent UK gadget outlet Carphone Warehouse.

While the official opening date has yet to be divulged and RIM is remaining quiet on the topic, the store is expected to open its doors before the end of summer. The store will also be packed with all manner of BlackBerry devices and supported by trained RIM customer service representatives.

Should current Net chatter bear fruit, the department store branch of RIM’s retail walk-in will mark the first time the Ontario-based manufacturer has looked outside of Canada in establishing a conventional bricks and mortar outlet.

Adding a touch of credibility to the present speculation, Pocket-Lint notes that Selfridges is apparently already viewed as the place for Londoners to acquire their BlackBerry handsets, and RIM has just this week unveiled a limited edition Bold in honour of Selfridges’ centenary.
