3D technology is a gimmick; a shallow novelty we hope will soon outstay its undeserved welcome. It is not the future of entertainment. Yet, try as we might, we simply cannot escape its clawing grasp at the moment.

Specifically, Hollywood’s current 3D obsession aside, computer maker MSI has this week revealed a 3D all-in-one PC to place alongside the 3D televisions and 3D Blu-ray players destined to hit the market in the coming months.

According to MSI, the 3D Wind Top HD will offer up its 3D goodness thanks to the inclusion of a multi-touch user interface, an LED backlit display panel (120Hz at either 22 inch or 24 inch), and, of course, a pair of pleasingly fashionable active shutter 3D glasses with which to enjoy the promised immersion.

In terms of internal specifications, the 3D Wind Top HD will be powered by a choice of Intel’s new Core i3, i5 or i7 CPUs and Turbo Boost technology for extra processing performance, while the ‘HD’ equates to a high-definition resolution of 1920 x 1080p. Given the brand focus on HD and the accompanying all-in-one moniker, movie fans should also expect the inclusion of a Blu-ray player.

Beyond the more muscular 22-inch and 24-inch models, MSI has also revealed smaller, more ecologically friendly 19-inch and 20-inch iterations of its new all-in-one platform, which will likely be powered by Intel’s energy saving Atom technology.

Other features expected to appear on all four models include the Windows 7 Home Premium operating system, a built-in Web camera, and a wireless keyboard and mouse.

MSI will officially debut (and detail) its new 3D Wind Top HD line at the upcoming CEBit technology event in Hanover, Germany, from March 02.
