While not exactly a major hardware overhaul, computer and gadget specialist Apple has this week improved its entry-level MacBook by integrating an improved processing platform and a more juiced-up battery.

What that equates to is the introduction of a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU (up from a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo), and a battery capable of pushing 10 hours of operation (up from seven hours on the prior model).

The basic MacBook also now comes complete with NVIDIA’s GeForce 320M graphics card, which replaces the old GeForce 9400M solution.

Beyond that, features and functions remain unchanged, which means the 13-inch portable computer still carries a solid 2GBs of RAM, a 250GB hard disk drive, and a double-layer SuperDrive.

More importantly, the smattering of enhancements have not affected Apple’s pricing, which keeps the little white MacBook at a pocket tempting $999 USD.
