May the 4th reveals Star Wars saga on Blu-ray

May the fourth has come and gone for another year, and with it the (somewhat cheesy) opportunity for fervent Star Wars fans to officially celebrate the existence of LucasFilm’s hugely successful science fiction epic.

However, while it’s more than likely that yesterday saw geeks everywhere trotting out the same old Star Wars in-jokes, tenuously opportunistic dialogue quotations, and the kind of shoddy costumes usually reserved for comic conventions, George and Co. at least added some genuine fan interest to proceedings.

Specifically, a mystery countdown appeared on the official maythe4th.starwars.com website, promising that “all would be revealed” once the clock ticked down to zero.

And shortly after the sands of time finally drained, the initial page link redirected to foxmovies.com/countdown and revealed that the complete Star Wars movie series will be released on Blu-ray via a nine-disc set this coming September.

Build-up to the high-definition versions is being accompanying by the new Star Wars Infinite Saga site, which shows various bits and pieces regarding the upcoming Blu-ray editions and rewards fans for pointing friends in the direction of the web page.

“Now you can be part of this groundbreaking release, through the magic of “infinite zoom” technology,” outlines the Blu-ray announcement. “When you share this site with your friends, exclusive imagery from the release will be revealed.”

“And the more the site is shared around the world, the more the world will see,” it added. “So spread the word today and “zoom” into the ultimate insider’s view of Star Wars on Blu-ray!”

Here’s hoping that the beauty of Full 1080p HD and all manner of Blu-ray extras can distract from the latter trilogy’s wooden performances and the unforgivable inclusion of Jar Jar Binks. Somehow we think the glitzy production values won’t quite manage it.
