Following on from our report yesterday, American software specialist Microsoft has indeed confirmed its intention to finally open an on-demand TV service through its popular Xbox 360 home console.
According to the Redmond-based heavyweight, it has formed a partnership that will see leading content providers such as Verizon (via its FiOS platform) and Comcast (through Xfinity) bring online on-demand broadcasting to Xbox Live.
“Today’s announcement is a major step toward realizing our vision to bring you all the entertainment you want, shared with the people you care about, made easy,” offered Xbox bigwig Don Mattrick in an official statement.
As had been suspected, the deal’s parameters also include television content supplied by the likes of Time Warner and NBC Universal through popular channels such as HBO and Syfy.
The on-demand platform, which was initially hinted at during the E3 Expo in June, will launch alongside the upcoming Xbox 360 dashboard update that’s scheduled for release in the third quarter.
