Gadget and computer titan Apple Inc. is facing yet more close scrutiny regarding the safety of its product line after another iPhone owner in France was left shocked and stunned when his smartphone handset exploded for no apparent reason.

According to 26-year-old supermarket security guard Yassine Bouhadi of Villevielle, the touch-screen display of his iPhone inexplicably shattered on Monday of this week while he was in the process of inputting a regular text message.

“I want an explanation about this damned telephone,” exclaimed Bouhadi, who paid €600 Euros for Apple’s trendy smartphone and had owned it for a mere three months ahead of its sudden and spectacular failure.

Bouhadi, who claims the explosion caught him square in the face and left a shard of glass lodged in his eye, also said he needs to consult a doctor and intends to file a lawsuit seeking damages from Cupertino-based Apple.

The unlucky security guard is not the only French victim of an exploding display screen calamity in August, with a teenage iPhone owner apparently suffering a similar incident earlier in the month.

Complaints regarding the two shattered screens in France are preceded by a serious complaint lodged by UK resident Ken Stanborough, who contacted Apple when his daughter’s iPod Touch hissed and billowed smoke before exploding viciously and leaping some ten feet into the air.

Stanborough’s quest for compensation made the headlines, not because of the faulty iPod, but rather because he accused Apple of attempting to cover up the incident by agreeing to refund the unit’s purchase price on the condition that he sign a confidentially agreement.

According to Apple, which fervently denied the accusation, recent concerns regarding overheating and exploding iPhone units are strictly “isolated incidents.”
