Having racked up more than a billion dollars in sales, it’s hard to deny the retail popularity attributed to military shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops.

That being said, all is not well on the videogame front now that more than 12,000 disgruntled Black Ops players have signed a petition demanding a full refund from publisher Activision.

The petition, which was started soon after the game launched in November, blasts Activision and developer Treyarch for persistent multiplayer problems, patch fixes that have only compounded issues, and aesthetic quality differences that separate the supposedly equal Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 releases.

Some of the specific complaints put forward by petitioners and commentators on the official Black Ops forum include damaging lag times when online, host migration problems, inferior screen resolution on the PlayStation 3, and gameplay damage due to poor frame rates.

“Is it appalling a developer or a publisher would release a game on two platforms charging the same price but not offer the same game in terms of quality or functionality,” wrote one gamer on the petition’s blog section.

“Almost all online games I play end with a connection lost error,” revealed another. “Extremely frustrating, and these patches don’t seem to do anything to address these issues.”

The online petition, which can be viewed here, is quickly gathering pace—having grown from 9,000 to more than 12,000 signatures over the Christmas weekend alone.

Neither Activision nor Treyarch have officially commented on the petition or whether unhappy players will be granted a refund.
