In a tech world currently dominated by anything and everything Apple-branded, it’s refreshing to note that the over-saturated mobile phone market isn’t standing still while rubbernecking consumers gather to ogle the iPad.
Moreover, American handset manufacturer Motorola has this week whipped the covers off its new Devour device, which, we’re pleased to note, looks nothing at all like an inflated iPhone.
Supported by Verizon Wireless and expected to arrive at retail this coming March, the Devour features a 3.1-inch touch screen (320 x 480), a touch-sensitive navigation pad, and is the latest in a steadily growing line of phones to be powered by Google’s Android operating system.
The sassy slide-out device also comes with a full QWERTY keyboard, a 3.0 mega pixel camera, an included 8GB microSD memory card, Bluetooth, integrated aGPS, access to more than 20,000 software apps through the Android Market, and pre-loaded services such as Gmail, Google Talk, YouTube, Google Search and Google Maps.
The Devour is also the first Verizon product to carry Motorola’s MOTOBLUR content delivery service, which syncs contact information from work and personal email accounts with posts, photos and messages on social networks such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.
Although Motorola has yet to officially reveal the Devour’s price point or the processor beating at its heart, price rumours place the device at below $200 USD (the price of Motorola’s existing Droid), while tech magazine PC World points to the 600MHz Qualcomm MSM 7627 as the chip of choice.
