MySpace gets more user traction than Google+

Despite Google’s best efforts, it would appear its Google+ network still isn’t making sizable in-roads into the social scene alongside the likes of Facebook and Twitter.

Moreover, the latest figures from research specialist comScore suggest Google+ users visit the network for only 3.3 minutes per month, while those visiting Facebook tend to dwell for between five and six hours per month.

Rubbing salt into the wound, long-forgotten social network MySpace—which has 27 million users less than Google’s platform—is still able to hold user attention for around 10 minutes per month.

Although quite the gut punch for Google, it’s worth noting that comScore’s figures only include usage via personal computers, and do not take mobile usage into account.

“Nobody wants another social network right now,” commented industry analyst Brian Solis in a Wall Street Journal report, adding that Google has not effectively conveyed the unique advantages and benefits connected to its network.

According to Google, it views the network not as “a site” but rather as “a deepening of its relationship to billions of existing users who are already committed to Google’s services like Search, YouTube, Android, etc… By this measure, engagement is already enormous.”
