Van Halen, Metallica, The Beatles, Black Lace and Aerosmith, what do all these legendary bands have in common? That’s right, they’ve all performed Agadoo live. Okay, joking aside, all-but UK popsters Black Lace have been recently immortalised in videogame form via their own Rock Band or Guitar Hero releases.

Next to press their virtual hands onto the videogame walk of fame are one-time punk wailers Green Day, who will soon be thrashing wildly for your entertainment on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii in the imaginatively titled Green Day: Rock Band.

According to publisher Electronic Arts, the Dookie-meisters will be launching their virtual world tour on home consoles this coming June 08 (in the U.S.), with the standalone software costing $59.99 USD on PS3 and 360, and $49.99 USD on Wii.

In terms of content, Green Day: Rock Band will deliver 47 tracks plucked from the band’s illustrious career, all of which will be played out on-screen via videogame representations of band members Billie Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt. Following on from The Beatles: Rock Band, the Green Day edition will also include vocal harmonies.

Whether slamming on a plastic axe, spraying spittle onto a mic, or beating seven shades out of a drum kit, players will also unlock 100 band images and 40 minutes of exclusive “rare and unreleased” video footage while moving through the tour.

A special $69.99 USD Premium Edition of the game will be available for PS3 and 360 owners, containing six extra Green Day tracks that can be downloaded from the PlayStation Network or Xbox Live. This slightly more expensive version of the game will also carry a voucher enabling players to export all songs from existing Rock Band editions without charge.

Given that 2009 was saturated by music rhythm titles, and retail performance flagged as consumer interest dwindled, it’s perhaps not surprising to note that Green Day: Rock Band will not launch with its own selection of exorbitantly-priced peripheral instruments.
