It’s hard to keep up with Electronic Arts (EA) where its white-knuckle Need for Speed series is concerned, with recent sequels roaring off the third-party publisher’s production line with increasing regularity.

Case in point, Need for Speed: Undercover, Nitro, World, Hot Pursuit and two versions of Shift have all burnt rubber at retail since 2008. And, clearly keen on maintaining that momentum, EA has this week revealed Need for Speed: The Run.

Confirmed by EA via its official Facebook page, The Run looks set to favour narrative-based arcade action as opposed to straightforward driving simulation—at least, that’s what we took from the game’s initial teaser trailer (see below).

News regarding The Run first broke when UK online retailer ShopTo.net jumped the gun somewhat and posted the trailer to its site ahead of EA’s announcement, which followed soon thereafter.

While details remain scant at this juncture, the storyline is expected to span iconic cities such as New York and San Francisco, while some of the car manufacturers present in the game include the likes of Audi, Aston Martin, BMW, Carroll Shelby, Lamborghini, Mazda, Pagani, Porsche and more.

Need for Speed: The Run is being developed by Vancouver-based EA Black Box, which has plenty of racing pedigree thanks to Need for Speed titles such as Underground, Most Wanted, Pro Street, Undercover, and World.

The game should be in stores by November 15 of 2011.
