Blimey, that was quick. It was only yesterday that we reported on the arrival of Nintendo Video and closed the report with news that Netflix would be bolstering multimedia availability on the 3DS in the not too distant future.

Twenty-four hours and one somewhat unexpected press release later and we can confirm that Nintendo’s groundbreaking 3DS console now boasts support for the popular streaming service’s mobile application.

“The new Netflix application looks great, plays great and is a fantastic consumer experience,” trumpeted Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime.

“It gives Nintendo 3DS owners access to an amazing wealth of movies and TV shows, which they can watch conveniently from thousands of free Wi-Fi access points across the country,” he added.

Capable of delivering its content in both 2D and 3D, Netflix on the 3DS is displayed on the console’s enlarged upper screen. However, users looking to expand their media consumption will need a broadband Internet connection and a membership subscription starting at $7.99 USD per month.

The Netflix application for Nintendo 3DS is available as a free download via the official Nintendo eShop.
