Expanding the appeal of its already formidable online entertainment portfolio, Netflix Inc. has this week announced a revised deal with The Walt Disney Company that secures the availability of yet more leading television properties for its streaming service.
The deal with Disney, which owns U.S. broadcasting giant ABC, means Netflix subscribers will now be able to enjoy existing seasons of hit shows such as science fiction drama Lost through the service’s ‘Watch Instantly’ channel.
For those users who’ve perhaps missed out on some of television’s biggest shows of recent years, Netflix will play host to the first four seasons of Lost, seasons one and two of Legend of the Seeker, seasons four and five of Desperate Housewives, and season five of Grey’s Anatomy.
According to Netflix, the expanded content deal with Disney came into effect on August 01 for the majority of applicable episodes, with the remainder due to be rolled out over the next few months.
The new deal furthers existing ties forged between Netflix and The Walt Disney Company in September of 2008.
Netflix currently offers around 12,000 movie and television titles via its streaming service, including content from the likes of Fox, CBS, and NBC.
