If you're looking for a fix on those crack-like cookies that come around once a year, there’s an app for that. Using GPS, the iPhone and iPod Touch app will locate the stand closest to your present location, and point you to delicious noms.

For some, Girl Scout cookies are an addiction. You plan on eating one or two when you open the box, but discover a few minutes later that they’re all gone. Because they're only available during certain times of the year, fans of such baked goods often purchase in bulk and freeze them, assuming they last the car ride home of course.

The problem is, in some areas you can only get them if you know someone it seems. Perhaps a co-worker has a daughter who sells them, or you may have a neighborhood girl who sells them. Sometimes, you can find stands at the mall or a local shopping center. Otherwise, it’s a treasure hunt.

The Cookie Finder app, released for the iPhone and iPod Touch, works by using GPS functionality to determine your present location before not only displaying a storable list of nearby cookie stands, but also pointing you in their direction.

Results can be sorted by radius or date, in addition to a wider map view, which displays everything. The start and end times of individual cookie stands are included as well. According to Girl Scouts USA, the app data is the most comprehensive available when it comes to cookie sales across the nation.

StudioE9, which created the app for Girl Scouts USA, says that it can also be used on social networking sites, allowing sale locations to be shared on Twitter and Facebook. In addition, using the sale start and end times displayed via the app, users can bookmark upcoming cookie sales, assuming you’re the plan ahead type.

The Cookie Finder app is available for download now.

I’m curious, given that I willingly admit to being hooked on Thin Mints and Do-Si-Dos, what is your favorite Girl Scout cookie?
